Although no official confirmation, the ad-supported Blu-ray exclusive from May from Warner Home Video and the abandonment of Netflix and BestBuy would be some of the reasons.
Toshiba could announce in the coming weeks the permanent abandonment of HD DVD, which could spell the end of the battle to stay in the market for new digital formats, which will pay off with the victory of Blu-ray.
This drastic decision by Toshiba would have been taken, according to "reliable sources outside the industry," cited by The Hollywood Reporter, in light of recent events against the HD DVD format, such as announcing exclusive support for Blu-ray, starting in May, by Warner Home Video and the subsequent abandonment of both Netflix and BestBuy.
For now, Toshiba officials have refused to comment on the veracity of this issue, but said they still believe that HD DVD is the best format for consumers.
